This dog's story is sad... even though she has a loving home misfortune keeps following her...
Buffy has bilateral medial luxating patella, bilateral knee arthritis, and distal femur deformity. Dr. Novak who is treating the dog had to cut through a bone in right paw to straighten out the bone. In her left paw, it was enough to deepen the bone's groove. Buffy took a lot of time to recover after the operation of the first paw.
Buffy is a wonderful, sociable girl, bringing a lot of love and happiness into the life of her owner. Sadly in spite of the specialized medical care, she is struggling with the diseases, which prevent her from fully enjoying being a dog. Buffy has bilateral medial luxating patella, bilateral knee arthritis, and distal femur deformity. The treatment is carried out by one of the top orthopedic surgeons who put all his heart into his work, Dr. Martin Novak. Buffy had already undergone an operation after which she was doing great and everything was going well. She began to feel more and more confident in the company of other dogs, she wanted to play and run around with them.
You could see the happiness on her adorable little face. Despite five operations, including a paw fracture, she did not lose her high spirits and patiently endured all the treatments. She bravely exercised during rehabilitation, showing her enthusiasm and determination. At the last control visit, which took place on May 7, Dr. Novak praised her progress and he was very satisfied with his job. Happiness, however, did not last long.
On Friday evening, Buffy wanted to jump on the couch to cuddle with her loving owner and fell down. Mrs. Julia quickly helped the dog to get up and examined her closely. Buffy limped on the right paw, so her owner arranged a meeting with Dr. Novak to check what had happened. The visit was scheduled to take place on Thursday. On Saturday, Buffy limped less and even lay down on that paw, which calmed down Mrs. Julia a bit. Unfortunately, while standing up, Buffy squealed in pain and could not stand on the right paw anymore. Without a second of thinking her owner the same day it all happened, she was taken to Bohumin in the Czech Republic, where she was left under the best care. In spite of having misgivings, Mrs. Julia believed that everything would be fine, and nothing serious happened with Buffy’s paw.
And suddenly, like a bolt of lightning, the bad news came. On Monday, the dog’s owner received a phone call from Dr. Novak, who informed her that the paw was broken. The doctor himself could not believe what had happened and how it came about. Without any hesitation, Mrs. Julia asked the doctor to do everything in his power to help Buffy, regardless of the costs. Mrs. Julia could not stand the thought that her dog could have anything bad happen once more. She dreams that Buffy can live a happy life without any pain and suffering. On Thursday, Buffy underwent a complicated operation, during which Dr. Novak did bone osteosynthesis, which he further strengthened with a specialist plate, 6 bone screws and two wires. The pooch also underwent a bone marrow transplant and collagen was given to her. For the operation, bone replacement material was used, known as smartbone granulat (smartbone granules).
The doctor used materials designed for dogs much heavier than Buffy to make her bones more durable. Buffy is now at home under the care of her owner, who devotes all her time to the dog and makes sure that the recovery is going as well as possible.
Buffy is very brave! Slowly and with a high degree of caution, she stands on the treated paw. She manages wonderfully, although she still uses her paw very tentatively.
Everything is getting better, which makes Julia optimistic. For Julia, the dog is her whole world. Thanks to your help and generosity, Julia was able to pay for previous treatments and rehabilitation. Below are some of the invoices that have been paid so far:
The surgery that Buffy underwent was very expensive. The invoice for the operation amounts to PLN 5,000, and there will be extra check-ups and rehabilitation, which aren’t cheap.
We hope that this operation will be the last for Buffy. We are asking you once more for help in the fight for health and proper functioning of this wonderful dog.
We believe that thanks to you, Buffy will be a happy dog again, who will no longer feel any pain or suffering, and her owner will be able to enjoy Buffy’s company and love for a long, long time.
